AP Artists explore TAFT ARC

INSPIRE. AP Art students walk the halls of Taft Museum, viewing “Still Life with Tilted Basket of Fruit,” “Vase of Flowers,” and “Shells by Balthasar van der Ast,” which is a Dutch Baroque painting. The still life depicts 32 different types of flowers, as well as various insects and animals including butterflies, flies, lizards, and dragonflies. This is the last year Mrs. Kat Rakel-Ferguson’s art students are participating in the Taft ARC (Artists Reaching Classrooms) program, which gives students the opportunity to become immersed in local art by organizing museum visits and professional speakers. The program is on a rotation, so a particular school will take part for five years and then will be out of rotation for about two to three years before being eligible to join again. On this field trip, students chose a particular art piece that spoke to them, and in the following weeks will write a paper about that piece from the point of view of the artist.Photo courtesy of Adhiti Chundur.
