Students showcase serious spirit

  • Senior Elizabeth Clark cheered in front of her student section during the rally. She is trying to motivate her class to win the spirit war the cheerleaders were conducting. No official winner was announced so all classes like to claim that they were the winners.

  • Amid the black, white, green and gold, there were traces of orange within the crowd. The pep rally was held the day of ‘Hoops for Hope’ which was a basketball fundraiser for the Dragonfly Foundation. The signature of the fundraiser was orange so many students showed their support by wearing Hoops for Hope shirts.

  • Along with MCs of the pep rally, the cheerleaders led the pep rally. They led the spirit wars and keep the crowd excited. Each grade of cheerleader has a different style of uniform and cheers in front of their student section with the purpose of winning spirit wars.

  • The SHS pep band took up the top section of the bleachers. Along with the MCs and cheerleaders the pep band plays a crucial role in keeping students excited and making sure there is never a moment of silence during the rally. One of the most important roles of the pep band is to lead the student body in the fight song.

  • Throughout the week preceding the pep-rally students could donate money in support of the Dragonfly foundation. Whichever of the five teachers earned the most money would get their head shaved. In the end all five teachers decided to shave their heads to show support for cancer patients.

  • One competition done during the pep-rally was a frozen T-Shirt competition. Real life couples from each grade were chosen to compete and tried to unfreeze a T-Shirt and then the boy had to put the shirt on. The winners of the competition was the senior couple of Alex Schlie and Ryan Gantzer.

  • Randall Lothrop, featuring a freshly shaven head, plays basketball against his students. The classic rivalry of students versus teachers was furthered during this pep rally. The students eventually won due to a last minute three pointer.

  • English teacher, Sofia Feist takes a shot during the student vs teacher basketball game. The teachers gave a valiant effort, including doing a half time player swap. In the end, the talented basketball star students they were up against were too tough to be beaten.

  • A group of female teachers danced to a parody of ‘Shake it off’ by Taylor Swift. The parody was about teaching and students texting in class. The performance was choreographed by art teacher Elise Williams.

  • The Firecrackers preformed at the pep-rally. As soon as the girls ran out onto the gym floor the students went into a frenzy. The Firecrackers are often the most awaited event of the school year.
