With five regular-season games left, the freshman baseball team is struggling. They are 5-9, but only 1-9 if you take out forfeit wins over Middletown and Princeton, who did not have enough players to field a freshman team.
However, the team knows they can hang with any of the top GMC teams, losing just 4-0 to Mason, and only 1-0 to Hamilton.
“We can play with anybody, it is just having to capitalize on the situations that we are given that will separate us from the rest,” said Ryan Wick, 9.
The team has a rough stretch ahead. With two games against Oak Hills, a makeup game against Mason, and then two games against Lakota West, wins will be tough to come by.
Overall, the team hopes to get a couple of victories to boost morale heading into the GMC Tournament on May 10.
“Hopefully we can pull out some wins from this final stretch. I think we can, we just have to believe we can,” said Kyuzo Kelly, 9.
