Hello! My name is Kiran Makkad, and I am a sophomore this year. This is my second year writing for the Leaf, and I am excited to step into the role of Web Director this year! I will be in charge of posting stories to the website, shsleaf.org, and making it more engaging for our viewers.

I joined journalism last year hoping to explore writing and find my own voice. However, journalism evolved into so much more than that—it became a community, and I am so glad I joined!

In my free time, I love to read; I particularly enjoy reading fantasy books. Some of my favorite books are Rebel Seoul by Axie Oh, Stars and Smoke by Marie Lu, and Of Glass and Glamour by Chanda Hahn. I also love to dance and sing. 

Journalism has been an amazing experience for me. Writing as part of The Leaf has allowed me to grow as both a writer and a person, and I am so excited to see what this year brings. I hope you are too. Happy reading!
