Apple is and has been one of the most innovative technology companies for the past decade. Yet again, they are on the path to success via consumer interest.

Apple was granted a patent for new EarPod earbuds. This new patent hints that these earbuds will accompany the iPhone 7 when it comes out.

Granted on Tuesday, the new patent is for earbuds that can connect to an iPhone both wirelessly and with a wire. With a bluetooth connection, they can be used with a wire. They come with a wire, however, in case no connection is available.

said, “I like the Apple EarPods the way they are. They are very comfortable in my ears and the sound quality is pretty good. If they were wireless, that would just make them even better.”

Due to the design shown in the patent, there is now speculation that the iPhone 7 will come with no headphone jack. Though some think they will connect through the Lightning port, the leading rumor is a bluetooth connection.

Sophomore Jared Sandow said, “I have wireless headphones now and they are really convenient. Wires just get in the way so much.”

The patent was originally filed in March of 2011 and has since then been abandoned. With technological increases, however, they may be revised and on the market along with the iPhone 7.

Apple last updated their EarPods in 2012 so they are indeed due for an upgrade. This very well could be the spark they need.

Junior Sydney Klein said, “This is really cool but wireless products usually need to be charged. If we would have to charge our headphones, I don’t think it would be worth the money.”
