Jane Austen
Jane Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire, England on Dec. 16, 1775. Although she grew up in a time where women were seen as inferior to men, her books directly went against societal norms and critiqued the British Gentry.
During her lifetime she published four novels: “Sense and Sensibility,” “Pride and Prejudice,” “Mansfield Park,” and “Emma.” Following her death, two more novels went into print, “Persuasion” and “Northanger Abbey.”
Despite her books being published anonymously, past her lifetime she has gained tremendous fame. Her most famous book, “Pride and Prejudice,” has sparked critical essays and literary anthologies, as well as the creation of a few movies.
Although Austen did die with Addison’s disease in 1817, her legacy will live on, and her books will continue to be cherished throughout time.
