Ty Simmons, sports editor

As stated in the header above, my name is Ty Simmons! I’ll keep this short and sweet. I’m a Senior with a year and a half of experience writing for The Leaf. I’ll be your Sports Section Editor this year, which means I’ll manage and edit all stories related to athletics going on here at Sycamore. I decided to come back after a hiatus through quarantine because the energy in the class is just unparalleled. Writing for The Leaf is such a great means to make your mark on the school in a unique way. I like that the class allows for creativity and I missed that! I recommend taking it for anyone reading this that isn’t in the class.

In terms of interests, I have a wide variety. You could come up to me and talk about anything, and I’d be able to relate or follow it. That’s why I know so many people from so many different backgrounds. My biggest journalistic inspiration is Vice News. They give honest looks into society that you don’t often see on other primetime news outlets. My favorite things to do overall are going on roadtrips with friends, playing video games, music discourse, and lifting. My music taste sums up who I am perfectly. From NSYNC to Miho Nakayama, it’s all over the place! Just like me. I’m also an active member of the Track and Wrestling team, and have experience with most of the other sports this school has to offer.

DELAY. Gamers, despite their initial disappointment at having to wait longer, will eventually enjoy a superior, more polished final product. Thus, game delays are necessary at times. Instead of slowing the pace, game delays just push back the finish-line.

ONLINE. Although often overlooked, online friends can be a blessing. Not only are they more accessible you can reach out to anyone at any time of day, even when they may not be readily available. Just being able to talk about things on your mind to a friend online will give you that boost you need, when you need it. According to freshman Kyle Studt, "Having long-distance friendships are extremely beneficial. They help me learn more about the world around me. To have empathy.” Studt has over 700 followers on Instagram, with at least half of that amount being online friends.
