SPORTS ARE ON! Although most people thought winter sports were coming to a halt, Sycamore’s Data Assessment Risk Team (DART) came to the conclusion that sports will continue during the post-Thanksgiving quarantine. All athletics for grades 7-12 will continue as planned for the week of November 30th - December 4th.
Sycamore Athletic Director Mark Harden discussed the decision for sports to continue during the virtual week. When asked about the numbers behind the decision, Harden said, “Since September 1st there have been two positive cases. That is two student-athletes out of 708 students competing in fall (365) and winter (343) or .002%. At the Junior High, they've had one case for over 400 athletes. In addition, there has been zero team/school spread - No positive tests of those in quarantine from close contact.” Harden goes on to talk more in-depth about the decision and how it was made along with the advantages of the decision.

SEASON UPDATE. After the Cincinnati Bengals blowout loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bengals have fallen to an uninspiring 2-6-1. Losing four of their last five games, their playoff hopes look very bleak, trailing four games from the wild card spot and seven games from their division leader, the Steelers. Having high hopes to start the season after drafting Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow and signing some defensive players like DJ Reader, Vonn Bell, Trea Waynes, this team is clearly still in rebuild mode. They will need to get more talent on this team if they want to compete for a Super Bowl, let alone having to go through one of the toughest divisions in football.

READY, SET, HIKE. The Big Ten football season was back after an extended off season due to COVID-19. The conference's committee made the announcement on September 15 that they would be playing games and fans had been anxious for them to start. Other conferences such as the SEC and ACC had started the season at the original start date and showed that it was possible for college football to take place, even under such harsh conditions because of COVID-19. All 14 teams played over the weekend and there was a wide variety of games. There were blowouts like the Ohio State and Wisconsin games, and there were also close games like the Penn State vs Indiana game which was won in the last seconds of overtime. One of the biggest games was an upset by Rutgers vs Michigan State, Rutgers won that game 38-27 and ended their 3-year Big Ten losing streak. The league also has Five ranked teams after Saturday's games. I interviewed a huge Ohio State football fan to see his reaction to the start and what the future of Big Ten football will look like.
