READY, SET, HIKE. The Big Ten football season was back after an extended off season due to COVID-19. The conferences committee made the announcement on September 15 that they would be playing games and fans had been anxious for them to start. Other conferences such as the SEC and ACC had started the season at the original start date and showed that it was possible for college football to take place, even under such harsh conditions because of COVID-19. All 14 teams played over the weekend and there was a wide variety of games. There were blowouts like the Ohio State and Wisconsin games, and there were also close games like the Penn State vs Indiana game which was won in the last seconds of overtime. One of the biggest games was an upset by Rutgers vs Michigan State, Rutgers won that game 38-27 and ended their 3-year Big Ten losing streak. The league also has Five ranked teams after Saturdays games. I interviewed a huge Ohio State football fan to see his reaction to the start and what the future of Big Ten football will look like.

MAKING HISTORY. For the first time in 124 years, the Olympic Games will be postponed. In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the IOC in coordination with the Prime Minister of Japan has decided to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games until 2021. While the postponement of the Games holds sorrow for many, the IOC and other Olympic leaders agree that the future Olympic Games should hold a symbol of hope, with the Olympic flame being “the light at the end of the tunnel in which the world finds itself at present.”

THAT’S A WRAP. Marching band finishes their season strong after competing in their final performance at Mason. Members spend a lot of time together, so oftentimes it is hard for seniors to move on past the 900 hours put towards band. However, they often always do and learn to replace all of that time with other things that brings them joy.

Band brings ends and beginnings

Lindsey Brinkman, Managing Editor November 20, 2019

900 hours is about how much time each senior has given to the marching band after four years. 900 hours of happiness. 900 hours of tough work. 900 hours of dedication.     That may seem reasonable...

“Outside of actually paying golf, our team does a lot of weird things. The weirdness of the team exists while we play but it is extremely evident when we’re not playing. This can be seen in our team sleepovers, especially between the antics of Emma and Sydney, they can be seen wrestling, fighting, throwing food, and just being lovable goof balls!”

GO AVES GO. Senior cheerleader Kennedy Archer is cheering on the Aves during one of their last home games. “Stepping out on the track to cheer one last time was a decision I was happy I made. I stopped cheering when I got to high school, so I’ve missed the excitement of cheering. This has been an awesome season cheering with my teammates, one I will not forget,” Archer said.
