Drew Berke, Sports Editor
Hello, I’m Drew Berke, a senior at Sycamore High School. This is my second year taking journalism and I’m very excited to continue my journalism career as the Sports Editor/Writer. I enjoyed being a part of this team of writers last year, and loved what we were doing so I wanted to come back and have a bigger role. I enjoy researching for my articles and have had some exciting professional sources. I am learning so much about the sports industry and am motivated to pursue more interesting topics for The Leaf.
I’m very passionate and knowledgeable about sports: specifically football, basketball, and baseball, both locally and globally. I’ve grown up playing basketball and baseball competitively, and with friends, from a very young age all the way through freshman year of high school. Currently, I am part of the Aves Ultimate Frisbee team and a member of DECA, a national association of marketing students that builds leadership and business skills. Outside of school, I absolutely love to lift weights. I look forward to working out at the gym four to five times a week. Lifting weights drives me to want to improve myself both physically and mentally and is an excellent stress-reliever. In addition, I am employed at Jimmy John’s as a sandwich maker as well as a delivery driver.
It is my hope to have a career in the sports world, perhaps sports marketing, analytics or sports journalism. This experience is building my writing skills, leadership skills and interpersonal skills. This knowledge will serve me well as I continue my education, pursue internships and other work opportunities.
