The Leaf

Katie Mott
Hello! My name is Katie Mott, and I am elated to join The Leaf staff this year as a sophomore. Due to my recently discovered passion for writing, I decided to join journalism to further develop my writing skills and continue to express myself in a medium that I have begun to cherish. My passion for putting thoughts on paper began at the end of my eighth-grade year, when I won my first honorable mention for poetry, encouraging me to enter the Montgomery Woman’s Club writing contest, where I received first place awards for both the poetry and short story categories. While winning various contests is extremely rewarding, the main reason I love writing is the power of words. While the ink we put down on paper or on a screen can spread hate or violence, our words can also become advocates for change; it’s simply a matter of putting them out there for the world to see. In addition to journalism, I also participate in student council and attempt to embrace the challenges of my demanding academic schedule. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, baking, and spending time with friends and family. This year, I hope to bring to The Leaf my passion for writing to create relevant and empowering stories for all to enjoy.
