The Flyover 9/21: Goodyear visits Cincinnati, big game for football against Colerain, and more

The Flyover is your weekly recap for all things Sycamore recruiting. Join us every week for a look at the recruiting updates in all sports at SHS.

Goodyear visits Cincinnati

Thursday, Sep. 15 was a big recruiting weekend for the University of Cincinnati, as they were playing host to #6 Houston for a primetime matchup. Unfortunately, Cincinnati was railed by the Cougars, but that did not seem to damper the recruits’ mood too much. One player that was in attendance was 2018 SHS lineman Tate Goodyear, who talked with Scout.com beat writer Tre Larkins about his visit.

“I really liked (my visit). I had a good experience. Some of my friends were there so that was pretty good. Obviously the atmosphere was great for a big game like that,” Goodyear said.

As for a potential offer from the Bearcats, Goodyear told Larkins that, “It would mean a lot because I always loved UC growing up around Cincinnati. I would love to play for (defensive coordinator) Robert Prunty because I think he is a great coach, but overall I like the entire coaching staff.

Big game for football against Colerain

Tomorrow, SHS will travel to Colerain HS to take on the #5 team in the country, the Colerain Cardinals. Colerain has been the pride of the GMC for the last decade or so, and will have several players attending Divison-I colleges for football next year. DB Amir Riep (Ohio State), Safety Keontae Jones (14 offers), Guard Howard Watkins (eight offers), linebacker Kyle Bolden (10 offers), and linebacker Ryan Davis (one offer). The star of that group is certainly Riep, who will attend Ohio State next year.

SHS only has one player with an FBS offer, 2017 running back Ra’Von Bonner. I have Colerain winning big tomorrow night.

Speaking of Bonner….

After being nominated for the WCPO Player of the Week award, the SHS running back added another honor as he was nominated for the MaxPreps/JJHuddle Player of the Week Award after rushing for five touchdowns in SHS’ win over Hamilton.
