The Leaf

Lauren Shassere
I am a junior, this is my third year on staff here for The Leaf and I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing news magazine and community. When I was in the third grade I wrote a story in my English class and my teacher thought it was so good that I got to read it out loud to the class. She told me that I’d become a writer one day. That day she sparked a dream in me where I was determined to be a writer and tell people stories, although this dream was short lived and put aside by my other interests and aspirations. I thought that I’d owe it to my third grade self to join my school newspaper freshman year. Currently my dream is to one day become a physical therapist/sports trainer for a professional sports team. Because of this, I decided to merge my writing with my love for athletics by trying to focus as much as I can on writing for the sports section of the magazine. Sports have been such a big part of my life for basically ever and I’d love to stay intact with that as an adult too. I’ve been a varsity track runner/swimmer since freshman year and last year I added water polo to one of my athletic interests. Another interest of mine is travel; I’ve been to Germany twice (lived there for a month) and have housed three exchange students from there. There is nothing in the world like getting to see another culture from the inside and my experiences through my travels have given me such appreciation for Germany as a country and the people who live there.
