Hannah Loftspring, Spotlight Chief

Welcome! My name is Hannah Loftspring and I am so glad you have come across my staff profile. I am very passionate about The Leaf and Leaflet, our print and online magazines. I take great pride in my work, displayed to the right, especially the more design-based ones. I feel very strongly that the students in a school should know who they are sitting next to in class, what cool things they are up to, and interesting opportunities or experiences they have been apart of. Knowing this places us one step closer to being unified as a school! I hold the position of Spotlight Chief, allowing me to interview a new student every month so they can have an entire page in The Leaf, showcasing what makes them unique. More information about me: I love to ride bikes with others, smelling the fresh air and stopping along trails to photograph the scenery around me. I find that it is a great stress reliever from my other exhausting activities. Though they are time-consuming and exhausting, I enjoy them very much. These include managing the recycling and compost station during lunchtime to contribute to Sycamore’s Green Initiative, and weekly Environmental Club meetings where we collect recycling for the entire school. Aside from that, I serve as the president of Gardening Club, Vice President of Student Council and the head of multiple Student Council committees, planning a multitude of events each year. Last year, I worked with other Student Council Representatives and companies to plan both homecoming and prom, as well as other fundraising events to benefit local organizations and some individuals associated with the Sycamore community.

TEAMWORK. Dividing jobs between committee members
ensures that every aspect of the event gets the attention it
deserves. Collecting shirt sizes of all of the participants,
designing shirts and contacting shops for donations and
apparel each require days of planning and much attention.
Student Council meets every day and the committee meets
three times a week to get it all done.

The blood drive will take place in the Gregory Center. Students receive passes when they sign up so that they are able to leave class to participate. There is a special time slot reserved for students who wish to participate in a slightly different procedure. It takes about ten minutes longer, and separates the blood cells from the plasma cells then returns the plasma cells to the donor.

the baked goods, raffle basket tickets, and shirt sales is being

Sharing is caring. “All four of us have the password to the account, and each of our friends follow it along with our mutual friends. I think it’ll be fun to find in a few years, and we’ll be able to remember our freshman year of college,” Wiedmann said.

Tufts is sorting through clothes for the group Community Matters. They have a laundromat, an education system and a food pantry. “The major thing about service learning is that you form really strong relationships with the people that you do it with. I did Mayerson with a couple of seniors and a couple of juniors who I now still have contact with even if they’ve gone to college. One of my friends Adhiti, I got to know much better from the program,” Tufts said.

The most common types of tweets this week are one that
reference a previous message. Students in all grades participate
and more often than not they recieve a lot of recognition. “I
know it sounds silly but it feels so good to have a tweet that gets a
lot of likes because I feel like everyone is laughing at my joke,”
said Leach.

If a student places their trash in the
incorrect can, whoever is working the table
will notify them and tell them the correct
placement so they can learn. There are students
who ignore the friendly correction. Since the
beginning of the school year, there has been an
increase in students who do listen and learn from
 the corrections.

The senior class sent out a survey will the design of the Ave Cave shirt. Students were asked to take the survey and answer whether they would purchase a shirt, and if so, what size they would buy. This will help determine how many shirts to order and of what sizes. The seniors are working with a company to print the shirts which can print more, if necessary, fairly quickly.
